Why Moisture Control Is Critical for International Shipments

When rice is transported internationally, moisture content in rice is an important quality factor that importers should not overlook. During long-distance shipping, changes in temperature and humidity can affect grain stability and storage quality.

Excess moisture may increase the risk of deterioration, unpleasant odours, microbial activity, and other quality concerns. On the other hand, excessively dry rice can become more vulnerable to breakage during handling and transportation.

For this reason, exporters and importers should agree on appropriate moisture specifications before shipment. Pre-shipment inspections, representative sampling, and laboratory testing can help confirm that the consignment meets the agreed quality requirements.

Moisture control should also be considered alongside grain length, broken percentage, foreign matter, chalkiness, milling quality, and packaging standards.
