We’re ordering custom curtains for the living room, and the quote includes optional extras: a pelmet, contrast borders, finials and holdbacks. I can’t tell whether they’re worth the money or just clutter.
My instinct is that one or two details might lift the whole thing, while all of them together would look fussy. A contrast border picking up a cushion colour sounds nice. Finials matching our brass door handles sound sensible. A pelmet would hide the track, but I worry it will feel dated.
Safety is on my mind too, since we have a toddler. If we use tie-backs, I’d fix them high, and keep any tassels or cords out of reach. I’d also like cordless blinds underneath.
I don’t know how to judge scale. Would heavier lined fabric carry bigger details than light sheers? And how do you view trims properly, since a swatch card is tiny?
I asked a drapery store to lay trims beside my sofa fabric, which helped a lot. Kingdom of Curtains offers free design consultancy across India, and has a display at JMD Regent Arcade Mall on MG Road, so I may go and look at finished examples there. Which accessories did you add, and which did you regret?
