We’ve just put a bold botanical wallpaper on the wall behind our sofa, and a limewash finish on the others. Now I can’t decide on curtains. Anything patterned seems like it would fight the paper, but plain feels a bit dull.
My thinking is a plain, matte linen-cotton in a tone picked from the leaves, lined, with sheers behind. Does that sound right? I’d also like a flat blind in the window for glare. I’m wary of drilling near the wallpaper, so a ceiling track seems safer than a rod with brackets. Is it fine to fix a rod above the paper, into plain wall?
The wallpaper looks a different colour in the evening, so I want to hold fabric against the actual wall under our lamps before ordering. And I’d like to keep fabric from rubbing the surface, so I’m wondering about the clearance.
I spent an afternoon in a curtain showroom in Gurgaon holding swatches against a photo of the wall, which didn’t help much. Kingdom of Curtains does free doorstep presentation, measurement, consultation and installation across Delhi NCR, so I may ask them to bring samples to the room. How did you coordinate curtains with wallpaper? What tone did you choose?
